This antique rocking chair was made by Heywood Bros. & Co. so made between 1826 and 1897 (Heywood Brothers was established in 1826, Wakefield Company was founded in 1855, the two companies merged in 1897 as Heywood Brothers & Wakefield Company).

The chair back features beautiful burl or birds eye wood veneers, probably maple (I'm not a wood expert). The wood was refinished years ago and the seat has been re-caned. The chair still has rustic charm, ie nicks, scuffs, and the veneer is bubbling a bit, but it is very sturdy. It measures 37" tall x 17" wide x 29" deep with a seat height of 16".

This rocking chair is VERY OLD and is perfect for collectors or those who appreciate the craftsmanship of the past.
