Scott Klein is one of the finest Artisan Carvers on the scene and I was just on his website checking out his signature grade pipes with a 7 Day Set he just sold for $20K, wow! His pipes average about $1500-$1800 it seems so like many other top of the line carvers he decided a few years back to offer a sub-brand called "Scott's Pipes" and they have been a HUGE hit! When you carve awesome shapes made from stellar briar with beautiful finishes and fantastic blasts but most importantly exhibiting precision engineering and offer them for a price everyone can afford, what's not to like? This impressive tear drop shank Dublin/Calabash/Chimney was carved 5 years ago in 2019 and has yet to see flame. It's a neat shape with a tall bowl, Dublin at heart but with a well inflated rim and super thick walls surrounding a deep chamber. Transition is crisp to the quarter+ bent wide tear drop shank adding a truly artisanal touch and has a recessed mortise holding the faux tortoise shell acrylic saddle stem with straight bit. Finish is jet black and the blast is impressive as it appears to be done with a very fine medium that intricately details the grain showing 360 degree ring grain, holy smokes! A phenomenal pipe from Scott Klein/Scott's Pipes, this one's ready to enjoy!

Restoration Methods: I have been restoring pipes for 16 years and have taken bits and pieces from many guys whom I consider the best there ever was in the business and built upon it with my own experience and tricks of the trade. Each pipe is first cleaned by removing all cake, making the chamber smooth and round again if necessary, removing all gunk in the shank and stem with alcohol, then exterior cleaning and polishing of the stummel and stem with no oxidation left but at the same time leaving the vulcanite or acrylic and any logos intact. My restorations end with the pipe looking like new and being completely free from previous signs of use. I do not use salt/alcohol treatments in my bowls but rather if the pipe smells of prior tobacco I will put it in my ozone chamber to make neutral. Lastly, many guys ask me "how are your pipes so shiny!!??" I lightly use the fluffy edge of my white diamond buffing wheel to clean and restore stummels which removes all grime and oils while restoring the original factory luster. I then hand buff and finish with a flannel wheel with high quality carnauba applying multiple coats as they do at the factory as well. This results in the pipe looking as new and will keep it's finish with a simple terry cloth hand buffing at home. Enjoy!
