Programme for a performance of the Gilbert and Sullivan opera “Patience” at the Savoy Theatre in London sometime after November 1881 (when Minna Lewis took over the role of Mrs Wranglebury in the curtain raiser “Mock Turtles”. All of those who created roles in “Patience”  are still in the cast list with the exception of Richard Temple who had been replaced by Walter Browne in September 1881. The 5” by 7.75” four-sided programme is printed on canary yellow paper (rather brighter than shown in my scans) and is in only fair condition with a wrinkled surface, central fold, original owner’s inscription, minor marks and other signs of wear.

This item was formerly in the collection of John Cannon, the respected G&S collector and researcher who died in 2021. He left instructions that all collectors should have a chance to acquire the treasures in his collection, which will therefore be auctioned here over the next year or so by StageMemories and PaperJoys. Please let us know if you would like to be added to a mailing list, to be informed of all or specific items from John’s collection.

Shipping:  Please take a look at the shipping options offered, which are based on my estimate of the selling price.  If an item sells for less than expected I may be able to reduce the shipping cost. Equally, if an item sells for considerably more than expected then you might wish to boost the insurance or the depth of packaging, which will increase the shipping cost.  I am always happy to combine items to reduce the shipping costs for you, but please note that when multiple items reach a high total value I may ask you to insure the package. If you want a service not stated, such as first class or surface mail, please ask for a quote. In all cases please discuss with me before making your payment. The maximum possible level of insurance on items sent overseas with Royal Mail is £250.  If the total value of contents exceeds this figure then you will have to accept the risk of sending the item(s), or choose an alternative courier.
