Up for auction is this incredible antique Dutch landscape oil painting on canvas. Possibly 18th or 19th Century.

It is beautifully framed in an ornate wood carved and gilded frame and has a figure walking on a dirt path and a figure fishing by the riverbank.

We see gorgeous large trees, mountains, a stone bridge, a sailboat off in the distance and even a windmill and cottage.

The details are fantastic and it is a wonderful Dutch Master painting with exceptional lighting and shading, depth, and precision!

I don’t see a visible signature but the back does show several stamps that this was part of the Burke Museum collection.

The stamp reads:

Thomas Burke Memorial

Washington State Museum

University of Washington

Seattle S. Washington

Handwritten date / number: 1966 -13/166, 5

Perhaps displayed in the museum at some point and deaccessioned.

May be a famous Dutch painter and I’ve seen these do very well if someone is able to verify the artist. I have not taken the canvas out of the frame but there could be signatures that I am not seeing.

Large painting and sturdy, heavy frame.

Wear consistent with age and a tiny bit of paint loss near the center.

Frame measures 31” inches long by 24.5” inches high while the artwork measures 24” inches by 18” inches (78.7 cm, 62.2 cm; 61 cm, 45.7 cm).

Would make a fantastic display piece, fine addition to a collection, or a great gift!
