Job Lot of Antique Crystal Radio Set Ephemera: Crystals, tins, etc.
FREE POSTAGE IN THE UK
I know very little about crystal radio sets, other than I made one, as a child, from a kit. Still, it's a fascinating bit of radio history - the idea that you can listen to broadcasts using no electricity and having no amplifier to boost the signal of the RF stage is still, to my mind, astonishing.
Here is a selection of associated ephemera. Please forgive me if I name something incorrectly.
- Two Super Sensitive Cymosite Detector Crystal tins - empty
- The Mighty Atom Cat's Whisker tin - empty
- Cymosite Super Sensitive Detector Crystal box with lid - has cotton wool inside
- Cymosite Super Sensitive Detector Crystal box with no lid - has cotton wool inside
- Three ceramic insulating wire rollers
- Cat's whisker (?) in red capsule
- Cat's whisker (?) in test-tube type container
- Seven crystals of assorted size
- Crystal set detector mount (?)
- Two brush-type things for potentiometers (?)
- A resistor
- A small pair of tweezers
- A small printed sheet of "Hints on using CYMOSITE" printed on both sides, in plastic protector
I hope you can make sense of what I've listed and photographed. It must have been a compelling and addictive hobby, back in the day. Nowadays, it seems almost akin to alchemy.
We are also listing a Revophone BBC Crystal Radio set.
