Description

This is a “Good for ¢ 10 Bucks” token from Prescott, Arizona. It was produced for R. Stoughton circa 1926 for one of the annual “Frontier Days”. The first Professional “Rodeo” ever held, dating from 1888, Prescott’s Rodeo is still held each year.

“Frontier Days” is still held around the 4th of July each year. The Rodeo is still an attraction and they have a parade.

Prescott (pronounced by most locals as "Press-kit" instead of "Press-cot") is a city in Yavapai County, Arizona. (Please see the map below). In 1863 this remote and lightly populated town was designated as the original Capital of the "Arizona Territory". This was done in order to keep the seat of government far from Confederate sympathizers prevalent in the southern part of the state. The Territorial Capital was moved south to Tucson in 1867. Ten years later, in 1877, Prescott again became the Territorial Capital and remained so until the capital was finally changed to Phoenix in 1889. Arizona became a State on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1912.

This token was made by the "Los Angeles Rubber Stamp Company" whose mark it carries. This firm made many different tokens and medals for businesses all over the west and even in Mexico from the late 19th Century into the early 1900's. Their tokens are well known and are collected in their own right.

The Token: A nicer example, it saw some use and has some marks. But I believe it has never been cleaned. As grading is subjective, please see the pictures and judge for yourself.
