‘ T H E B I G S L E E P ’
The Only Ones formed in 1976 with Peter Perrett (vocals/guitar), John Perry (guitar), Alan Mair (bass) and Mike Kellie (drums). A promising independent 7" single 'Lovers Of Today' on their own Vengeance label in 1977 led to the group being signed by CBS Records, who released their classic 'Another Girl, Another Planet' single.
They recorded three albums with CBS: 'The Only Ones' (1978), 'Even Serpents Shine' (1979) and 'Baby's Got A Gun' (1980), but although they achieved reasonable album chart positions a combination of escalating studio budgets and rumours of heavy drug problems led to band tensions and an eventual split in ’81.
The band won considerable music press attention and has frequently been hailed as a much underrated and influential group. Their influence has been heard in numerous bands, such as House Of Love, INXS and recently Babyshambles, to name but three.
'The Big Sleep' was recorded at Amsterdam’s Paradiso Club, is heard in a perfect stereo, multi-track recording (produced by John Perry) and includes five songs not heard as live versions elsewhere. Following ‘Another Girl Another Planet’ being used on a Vodaphone blanket ad campaign, there is renewed public and press interest in the band, with features in Mojo, Uncut and Classic Rock and elsewhere.
Uncut in their 4/5 review described ‘The Big Sleep’ as being one of the best of The Only Ones on CD, saying: “The set’s impeccable, and the spoken links are cynical, weary and naturally funny.”

Postage
UK
and particularly international postage charges have risen sharply (May
2012). The amount we charge is what we expect to pay plus approx 20-30p
for packing materials.
Multiple items postage

reduction in postage costs – but make sure you order them together, not
individually. If the estimate still looks excessive, don't pay but
click on the 'Request total from seller' button in the shopping basket.
We'll then recalculate the costs for your combined items postage and
send you an invoice. The postage may or may not calculate as less;
we’re trying to refine the accuracy of the automation.
(Note: the date printed on our postage is two days after we print it, ie the date it remains valid until with Royal Mail.)
