55.24 U.K. Sopwith Camel 2F.1, 1/72 scale Academy kit 1624, NIB open with parts in open plastic bag

The Sopwith Camel started development as a replacement for the Sopwith Pup and was originally know as the “Big Pup”. The fairing covering the twin machine guns caused a hump in the fuselage which led to the name of “Camel”. The prototype first flew in December 1916. After the period known as “Bloody April” when the new German fighter models reached the front before the new British and French models, the Camel was introduced to the combat squadrons in June 1917. By February 1918, 13 Squadrons were flying the Camel, and a total of 50 Squadrons eventually flew the Camel. Unlike the Pup the Camel was not an easy airplane to fly. However the Camel was a superb fighter plane. It was noted for its excellent maneuverability. Combined with the S.E.5a the Camel was able to take the aerial superiority away from the German Albatross biplanes. By the spring the Camel was reaching obsolescence due to its low speed and poor high altitude performance. It then began to be used as a ground support aircraft. However, it was at this time that Capt. Roy Brown shot down the leading German Ace (80 kills, more than any other pilot of all of the combatants) who was flying a Fokker Triplane. A total of 5,490 Camels were produced and they were credited with shooting down 1,294 enemy aircraft, which was more than any other allied aircraft. We accept PayPal and eChecks. Payment is due within three (3) days of the end of auction. We will ship within five (5) business days of receipt of payment. Our primary shipper is USPS. We will ship the least expensive of the options unless directed otherwise. Please, let us know if you need the item for a special event or by a specific date and we will assist in meeting your schedule. Remember that first class and priority mail takes 2 or 3 days, and parcel post or media mail takes 6 to 10 days. Express mail can be done overnight if everything comes together and second day if it doesn’t. Please E-mail us if you have any questions We have been advised by the US Post Office that shipping anything to South America is risky and there is a good possibility that the item will end up on the black market. They recommend that the package be shipped with a “return receipt” and that gives the best chance of the item arriving. A Note on our Shipping and Handling. Our shipping and handling (S&H) is based on the size and weight of the item plus an estimation of the weight of the packing materials. This gives us the amount the USPS will charge to ship the item, we then add two or three dollars to cover the purchase of boxes, packing material and our time and mileage to pack and ship the item. This means that while we may charge you $9.00 for S&H the price that you see on the postage when it arrives will likely be 6 or 7 dollars. It doesn’t mean that we’re trying to scam you or otherwise take advantage, it’s just what it takes to cover our costs in running this store. We do customize S&H charges for multiple item shipments based on the combined weight and size of the items plus weight and cost of the box, an estimation of the weight of packing materials, and $1 for each item to cover the packing materials and the drive to the Post Office. In order to do this takes a bit of time so please give us five (5) business days to ship your item. If we run into any additional delays we will let you know just as soon as we can.
