Why is a hex socket takedown screw one of the

most common upgrades for the Ruger 10/22?

Þ            The deep hex socket allows for more consistent torque

Þ                    Factory takedown screws require a flat head screwdriver

which often slips and can damage the stock.

     Hex sockets do not slip.

Þ            Vibration dampening rings allow for individual

     customization of fit (use optional)

Þ          Compliments aftermarket stocks

How is the Raven Eye Custom Takedown Screw different from the others available?

Þ       The length of the screw has been maximized to provide the most stability

while preventing contact between the barrel and the takedown screw.

Þ     The hex socket is sized for a 1/8" socket, vs the 5/32" sockets all others use.  This is done for a reason, to prevent overtorque.

Þ      The ideal torque (as determined by benchrest shooters) is 25-30 inch-lb of torque (yes inch-lb, not ft-lb).

Þ      The provided 1/8" hex wrench will begin to deflect (slightly bend) at 30 in-lb, giving you an indication of the ideal torque, and allowing for repeatibility

.

Þ      Every dimension on the screw has been optimized specifically for use in the Ruger 10/22.

Other vendors offer a T-handle hex driver together with their takedown screw.

I considered offering one, and here is the reasons that I included a basic hex wrench instead:

Reason #1:  The T-handle and a simple hex wrench will do the same job of providing a consistent torque to the takedown screw.

Reason #2:  In order to include a T-handle wrench in my kits, I would need to raise the price of the kit.  Instead of raising the price, I reasoned

it is better to let the consumer decide if they want the fancy wrench which they can buy on their own for about $1.25.

Reason #3:  The included hex wrench is sized to provide the optimum torque, as determined by benchrest shooters.  The wrench deflects at the optimum torque,

providing repeatibility and preventing damage to the receiver (which is aluminum -- the threads WILL strip if consistently overtorqued)

A Common Question:  Will I have to drill out or otherwise modify my factory escutcheon to

use this product?  Absolutely not.   This part is a "DROP IN PART" that requires no work other

than unscrewing the old takedown screw, and screwing in the new.

BEWARE OF OTHER LISTINGS THAT SELL FULLY THREADED TAKEDOWN SCREWS!!  The factory Ruger ones,

like the Raven Eye Custom screws, are partially threaded.  If you use a fully threaded screw, YOU WILL DAMAGE

THE THREADS IN THE ACTION AND THE ESCUTCHEON.

Another Common Question:  Who is Raven Eye Custom?

From the owner:

“Raven Eye Custom products were initially designed for use in high end custom target rifles.

Not until recently were these made available as individual components.  1022 Armory is one

of the first retailers to begin offering our line of products.

The goal of Raven Eye Custom LLC is to make affordable products that are of excellent quality.

Affordable excellence!

The takedown screws come with a lifetime guarantee for the original purchaser.  The product

will be replaced if it ever wears out or fails to be “excellent”.  Simply return the screw to the

address posted on the packaging.
