Offered by Over The Blue Horizon is “U-Boats Under the Swastika” by Jak. P. Mallman Showell. In this second edition of the book (1989), first published in 1973, the author has revised and rewritten much of the text to reflect new information.  Supported by a wealth of rare photographs and a selection of line illustrations and diagrams, “U-BOATS UNDER THE SWASTIKA” traces the history of the German U-boat arm from its prewar origins, through the heyday of the Wolf Packs and service in the far corners of the oceans, to the final death with dignity in 1945.  The development of weapons, radar, and new boats, amongst other subjects are supported by comprehensive tables of data that make this book a fascinating account of U-boats under the Nazi flag.

The author is well-recognized as one of the world’s premier experts on U-boats – his father was lost at sea on this 13th operational tour with U-377 in January, 1944.  This 144-page, 7 x 9.5 inch hardcover with dustjacket was published by the Naval Institute Press, Annapolis, Maryland in 1989.  Condition of the book is good+ -- the dustjacket shows a bit of wear and a little ‘toning’; otherwise, it is tight, bright and clean.
