Offered by Over The Blue Horizon is “MAN POWERED FLIGHT” by Keith Sherwin.  Written in the early 1970s, this fascinating book captures the challenge of man powered flight some 40 years ago.  At that time, man powered flight was still in its infancy – the record length was 993 yards by the Hatfield PUFFIN.  Wingspans of various man powered aircraft at that time ranged from 44 to 123 feet, and empty weight from 81 to 215 pounds.

In this first textbook primarily aimed at the student of man powered flight, the author analyzes the problems of design structure and operation, adding his own theories for production of a practical ‘pedal scooter’.  Specially selected illustrations collected by the AEROMODELLER staff convey a pictorial history of progress and the combination of text, diagrams, and photographs form a (circa 1971) scientific reference work of fascinating reading.

This 176-page, 6 x 8.5 inch hardcover with dustjacket was published by Model & Allied Publications, England in 1971.  Condition is very good – the dustjacket shows wear, has some damage along its top edge, is slightly ‘sunned/faded along its top, and has a couple of minor stains.  Otherwise, it is tight, bright and clean.  See the accompanying scans to obtain a ‘visual’ on these condition issues as well as to better appreciate just how nice this book is!
