The ROTHER 2.5 has 5 planks per side fitted to a full length plywood keel and can be built to row, motor and/or sail. The boat is built using 4 sheets of 6mm and half sheet of 12mm marine plywood and a few lengths of timber. It uses about 3 - 4kg/ltr of epoxy with approximately 300g fillet mix (West System 405 for example). It is built using the Clinker Plywood build method and takes around 10 days work to complete the rowing/motor version but the sailing version takes longer. It is built using the Clinker Plywood method which is a fairly easy build method well suited to DIY boat building.
Use for fishing, as a tender, for sailing or just pottering about on your local water.
This boat always attracted admirers when we used ours.
It will take a small outboard - petrol or electric.
Basic materials guide,
3 or 4 sheets of plywood for the hull component parts plus a few lengths if wood for the trim and build frame etc. plus a minimum 3kg (3ltr) epoxy pack and additives for fillets, paint and varnish.
The building of this boat requires average DIY skills and a few basic tools. T

Note: Being under 2.5m these boats do not need to be certified under the UK & European Recreational Craft Directive. However, they would be Category D, SHELTERED WATERS: Designed for use on sheltered coastal waters, small bays, small lakes, rivers and canals when conditions up to and including wind force 4 and significant wave heights up to and including 0.3m may be experienced, with occasional waves of 0.5m maximum height, for example from passing vessels.
