Offered by Over The Blue Horizon is “Inro and Other Miniature Forms of Japanese Lacquer Art” by Melvin and Betty Jahss.  Scroll down for more pictures!

Written for both for the novice in Japanese lacquer art as well as the advanced collector, this beautiful book remains recognized as one of the ‘standards’ in the genre. For readers who desire a general acquaintance with the subject, there are absorbing chapters on the history of Japanese lacquer, miniature lacquer forms, and the subject matter of lacquer art. For the collector, there is not only highly technical information on lacquer manufacture and techniques but also a comprehensive chapter on the netsuke.

Three other very useful features of the book are: the biographical listing of more than 900 miniature-lacquer artists, the genealogies of the outstanding lacquer schools, and the reproductions of 59 signatures of representative artists. The book is generously supplied with 256 illustrations, of which 76 are in color. All important miniature lacquer forms are represented and there is a well-selected and useful bibliography.

This 488-page, 9 x 11 inch hardcover with dustjacket was published by Charles E. Tuttle, Vermont/Tokyo, and is a stated Second Printing (1981).  Condition is good – the dustjacket shows wear, especially along its upper edge, and the pages of the book show minor yellowing/browning. Scroll down to view accompanying scans showing the book's condition.  Remember, altough the dustjacket's upper edge looks bad, the rest of the book is good -- a tight, solid copy.
