The Bad Monkey Tube Overdrive gives your amp a boost just when you need it. It has been compared to the TS-808 but with having the unique ability to smooth out the distortion by use of the low and high EQ controls. Most overdrive pedals give you one tone control knob thus limiting your tonal options. You asked for a pedal that will maintain your guitar's distinct tone and DigiTech delivered! This pedal will push your amp or another gain pedal to give you that classic tube sound with some nice crunch when you want it. It sounds a lot like a Tube Screamer, and with our mods it is even hard for me to tell the difference. But unlike the Tube Screamer, this pedal gives you more control over the tone by adding two separate tone controls. It has a knob for the lows and a knob for the highs...compared to the Tube Screamer’s one lone tone control.

Bad Monkey Gorilla Mod


A while back I got a note enclosed with a Bad Monkey that a customer sent me for a mod. 

He said “Mike, I want you to take this Bad Monkey and turn it into a gorilla!” So I have decided to call this mod the Gorilla mod.


Some mods for this pedal were inspired by mods developed by Brian Wampler. The biggest part of the mod is changing out certain capacitors for Panasonic metal film capacitors with different values. This helps the tone by making the pedal more transparent and increasing the amount of available bass. 


We altered the clipping so now the pedal has more available gain.


We also added a phat switch that any guitar player can appreciate…especially Fender players. 


And of course we replaced the LED with a nice bright water clear/blue LED. The LED is clear when the effect is switched off, and a very noticeable blue when the effect is switched on.
