Description

The Canadian winter is a time of celebration and outdoor fun.  This beautiful full-color coin features an original artwork by Canadian artist Tony Harris and captures the joy of a Canadian rite of passage: learning to skate on one of the country’s thousands of outdoor rinks.

This beautifully finished full-color coin makes a lovely gift, a marvelous keepsake, or a stunning addition to any existing coin collection or display.

Special features:

  • This coin celebrates the joy of a Canadian winter rite of passage.

  • This coin is an excellent addition to any display featuring painted coins, winter, or Canadiana themes.

Design:

Designed by Canadian artist Tony Harris, the coin features a portrait of a man teaching a young child to skate on an outdoor rink in winter.  A young girl in a dark pink coat and helmet, bundled in her mitts and snow pants and donning her first pair of skates, smiles widely as the man behind her holds her hands to keep her upright.  The man, dressed in dark blue outerwear, a red toque and white-laced black hockey skates, bends gently over his charge, coaxing her shakily forward on the smooth surface of the outdoor rink.  Behind the skaters, we see the rough wooden side boards of the rink.  A small orange hockey ball sits at the base of the boards.  In the background is a snowy street lined with brick houses, rendered in beautiful detail and full color, and dotted with snow-covered evergreens.  A bright blue sky dotted with soft grey clouds rises above the heart-warming scene.

Packaging:

Each coin is encapsulated and presented in a Royal Canadian Mint-branded maroon clamshell protected by a black beauty box.

Unsearched”All of the coins offered in this listing are “unsearched”.  Many coin dealers “search” all coins when they are received from the Mint.  They "cherry-pick" the best coins.  Then submit them to be graded, certified, and slabbed by PCGS, NGC, ANACS, etc.  These graded and certified coins are then sold at higher, premium prices.  When a dealer searches coins, those that they sell in original Mint packaging are only lesser quality coins.

Photos: When a listing offers multiples of the same coin, one coin is picked at random and photographed.  Since all coins offered in that listing are essentially identical, the coin photographed is representative of all coins offered.

Surface areas that appear black on some proof coin photos are actually highly polished, mirror-bright metal reflecting the color of the camera.

Our goal is to provide clear, high definition photos that accurately represent the coin(s) offered in each of our eBay listings.  Whenever possible, we use actual photos of our coins, rather than just “artist’s conception” drawings from the Mint.  We frequently update and upgrade the photos that appear with our listings, using improved cameras and lenses and better lighting.  We will honor your requests for additional photos as quickly as our schedule permits.
