These units were specifically manufactured/altered by JBL to be used as live in-store demo models so they were built to last. Power button has been deactivated. Most people will probably not turn it on/off anyway; Button is on the rear so location isn't convenient & it's easy to forget. What you get is the 200id speaker dock with power adapter in JBL factory white serial numbered box. If having a remote (that doesn't work very well for multiple reasons) is what's important to you then this unit isn't for you. If having a bunch of neat looking inserts (which most people will not be able to use) are important to you, then don't buy this dock. If great sound is the most important thing, then this demo is the one you should buy.
JBL 200id On Stage systems are not all the same...Not even close!! If sound is more important, than extras that you may or may not use, then be sure to get a demo model. We believe that JBL installed much higher/better range harman speakers into these demo units. They probably figured that when you got your retail unit home you would think that the store display only sounded better because the acoustic layout/setup at the store was different; Who knows?? ...This is just a guess but the 'why' doesn't really matter anyway. Our docks sound totally awesome & that's a fact!!!

OUR EXPERIENCE:
SOUND: We thought we needed the little inserts & remote so we bought an On Stage 200id package at a local retail store for a lot of money ...What a major disappointment. We are not big fans of bass, & it's a good thing, cause the retail version had none. After getting used to how the demo sounds we kicked the retail unit to the curb after one week of suffering; It was a massive downgrade. We are not audiophiles ...You don't need to be one either in order to tell the difference because it's not a small one.
INSERTS: Once you choose an insert & install it, it's not exactly easy to remove. I don't think JBL intended for them to be repeatedly swapped in & out. Inserts will only be useful to people who use one type/generation device. We have iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, & also different generations of iPod Nano. Our demo units come with a better looking permanent black insert which all our devices fit so I don't get the logic of the 6 different inserts?? The iPhone insert & Nano inserts are different so the retail was again worse for us in that aspect.
REMOTE: The remote was nearly as disappointing as the sound downgrade. Range lousy, spongy buttons, & you can't see squat on an iPhone screen unless your right in front of it anyway ...Duh! ...Should've saw that one coming but we didn't!! lol
INSTRUCTIONS: I like to have instructions!! Retail unit comes with an impressive fat 60 page booklet but that's just at first glance ...After a closer look you'll find that only 5 pages are in English & they contain not one useful bit of info. I'm sure it can be downloaded from the net but you'll find that it was just a waste of time. The dock is totally idiot-proof so I recommend you not bother with the manual.
AUX IN PORT: For Apple & non-Apple devices. Connect the included cable to headphone port of your device & to AUX port on rear of dock. Using the dock via this port will allow you to play your music but without forcing your device to charge!! ...We use this feature much more than we use the main interface as we only like to charge our devices when they need it.
USB PORT: Our demo units have a USB port on the rear & the retail version we bought did not <<<===It's kinda cool that it has a USB port but we have no idea what it's for?? ...Dear buyers, if you figure out the use for this port please do let us know:-)))
POWER ADAPTER: The included power adapter cable spec is 100-240v so this dock will work anywhere in the world without a power converter!! ...But do keep in mind that the plug tip is for USA wall outlet only!!! ...If you plan to use this in another Country, you will either need to purchase a tip converter or we can include a universal tip converter (good for all countries) for $5.
