and they cracked the perch, as it is cast aluminum -
and not intended to be forced apart with a large screwdriver
:-)
here's a note on
installation:
you only want to tighten your perch mounted controls, clutch
perch/lever, brake lever/master cylinder
just tight enough so that they don't
move during normal use, but are loose enough that
you can rotate them on the
bars if you use both hands to apply force. This allows for
some forgiveness
and if you are lucky, the whole perch will move, instead of simply
breaking
as will happen every time on a rigidly mounted setup.
(especially
on a dirt bike, or enduro, which are more likely to have tip overs and
crashes)
street bikes usually break levers even if you set them up loose, but
i have gotten lucky before.
a confusing thing is that on Honda bikes,
many clamps like the bar
clamps, lower fork leg caps,
master cylinder clamps are all directional,
meaning one side of the clamp
is longer than the other, usually marked with
an arrow or a dot.
The long side is supposed to beon the top or forward,
and the correct procedure is:
you tighten it (the longer top/forward end) all the
way,
then tighten the back or bottom bolt last.
I have seen guys try
to do that with these aftermarket clamps,
and it just breaks them off,
because one end is NOT longer,
like on the quality OEM parts.
These
need to be tightened SLOWLY and EVENLY!
and DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN!
you
should be able to move them on the bar with some force,
so they will rotate,
and not break in the event of a minor spill / tip over.
I also have regular street bike lever assemblies.
~ some with and some without mirror mounts.

DO NOT pry/force
apart the clamp with a large screwdriver :-)
