This is a hand carved hairpin from Tampaksiring, Bali.
Beautifully made, this decorative hairpin looks very pretty on. The natural wood is variagated in colour and the top end forms an attractive square shape, which has a lovely shimmering paua shell inlay at the top. The inlay workmanship is superb! Each stick is quite unique! (there are a few photos of samples - as you can see they are all gorgeous!) They give an elegant touch to your long hair when it is pinned up, and also make a wonderful gift for others. I like to use one stick to make my bun.
This chopstick hairpin measures approx 1.5 cm in width at the end and 18.5 cm in length (usable length is 14 cm), weighing approx 7 g. It is made from Sono wood, a durable and sustainable hard wood which holds up well in moving to dry colder climates, and has beautiful markings. It is much more common than other tropical hardwoods of comparable beauty- some of which have been sadly overused and now have become rare. The lovely multicoloured shell is Paua shell from New Zealand. These are listed as multiple items, so may differ slightly being hand made from natural materials, but as you can see in the samples above they are all gorgeous!
This product is made in Tampaksiring, a little town in the centre of Bali. We first spotted these lovely hairpins in Yogyakarta and bought some there, and by an amazing coincidence we met the maker while traveling home via Bali. We buy direct from the maker – resulting in fantastic prices for you!
