All Susato Kildare whistles:
    •    Have separate head and body sections for easy fine-tuning (a must!)
    •    Are made of ABS plastic which is highly durable, impervious to moisture, and does not conduct heat as rapidly as metal. The plastic maintains a more stable pitch with temperature changes.
    •    Have a curved windway
    •    Have a slightly tapered bore, which contributes to a rich, bright sound and easy overblowing into the higher octaves.

The purchase price includes:
    1.    The whistle itself
    2.    A vinyl carrying case
    3.    A fingering chart
    4.    A removable thumb rest
    5.    A tube of joint grease

More features of the Susato Kildare whistle:
    •    Serrated tenon joint retains joint grease much longer and allows for repeatable 'stepped' tuning changes.
    •    A rubber -O- ring assures an airtight seal at the tenon joint.
    •    The adjustable (and removable) thumb rest contributes to secure, comfortable holding and playing.

Susato whistles have excellent intonation throughout. For the cross-fingered low flat seventh degree of the scale (i.e. C-natural on a D whistle), the oxx-ooo fingering (i.e. covering only the second and third finger holes, counting down from the mouthpiece) is right in tune. We consider this to be an essential attribute of a fine whistle. Many other brands require more elaborate fingerings for an in-tune low flat seventh note.

Susato Kildare whistles have the quickest finger and articulation response time of all the low-priced whistles we have tried (including the Susato Dublin and Oriole models). This speed of response becomes increasingly important as you evolve as a player.

Important note: The Susato Kildare D whistle is available in two versions, the V and S series. The V-series (V stands for “very small bore”) is reedier sounding and slightly quieter than the S series (S “stands for small bore") which is a bit louder, fuller and more recorder-like in tone. We feel that the V-series requires a bit less air pressure for playing in the high register. Some people see this as an advantage of the V-series D.
