Oring upgrade kit to suit Minelab CTX3030

What you will recieve:

1 x Battery pack oring
1 x USB plug oring

Did you think to yourself, great I just purchased a CTX3030 and reading all the instructions about your new
detector thought
"I will take it in the surf or river to see how it goes"
Stop there
I did that and within minutes water penetrated the battery, unaware this can happen, I cleaned the machine down and stored it away until next time. Big mistake.
Upon charging the battery for the next trip I found it was full of water and the battery shorted out between the machine terminals and the battery pack. In one section it arced out a piece of the machine's terminal causing permanent damage.
Plus the battery pack is now damaged too from the electrical arcing.
I was very disappointed at what had just happened and looked at ways to fix this.
I also found that when detecting one of the battery clips would just pop open. This is very annoying.
I saw how people would use rubber bands to hold the clips down so they would not pop open but I found the rubber band would deteriorate and then break. This was not the answer. I then saw where if you replaced the battery door oring with a thicker one you would solve both the water penetration and the clips popping open.
So I asked my oring manufacturer to produce the required orings and after trialing them they work perfect.
In doing this I am able to help out other CTX 3030 owners by offering for sale the remaining qty from my production batch of orings.

How to carry out the upgrade / fix:

Battery Door Oring

Firstly you need to remove the factory fitted red thin oring from the battery door. You can use an oring pick for this job. Very easy to remove it. Once removed clean out any dirt or sand from the oring slot. Get some seal & oring grease and use a little bit of it around the new oring and gently push the new oring around the oring slot. It will not be hard to install.

Then refit battery and listen for the new louder snap when closing the battery clips. Now your CTX3030 battery is ready for the water.

USB plug Oring

Due to the flat piece of rubber used to seal off this section of your detector it is possible that water can penetrate this section of the detector too. So to help fix this issue remove the factory installed piece of rubber from the screw cap with your oring pick. Once removed clean out any dirt or sand from within the cap and the thread. Place new oring down the base of the thread and screw cap on tight. This will act as a better seal then the flat piece of rubber. Note that I found after taking the detector into the water it is a good idea to remove the cap and dry out the thread section.

This kit is not made by Minelab and it may void your warranty, so it is the buyers choice to carry out these mods. We are not liable for any damage caused by this above information and/or supplied product.
