Ginger is a common plant that can be found in many South East Asian countries but is now also cultivated in many other countries such as Africa, Australia, Caribbean and the Latin America. The plant is sourced from the Zingiber Officinale and thrives best in subtropical forests such as those found in India where the native people first cultivated it. Ginger belongs to the same family as Turmeric and as such has similar attributes.

Ginger was the first spice that was bought to Europe and is popularly used not only as spice ingredient but also for confectionery products. The Ginger roots are used often in Chinese and Japanese cuisines, made as pickled ginger, and served as a side dish.

The bulb of the ginger is technically a branched rhizome and grows underground. The bulb has brown or beige thick skin; the flesh is a fleshy pale yellow in colouring. The extracts from the bulb serve as essential oils, of which the active ingredients are the Shogaol and Gingerol oils.

Ginger is known for its anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and anti-allergenic properties, which is the reason why it is an excellent natural supplement for the body. The plant is also known to help people who experience fatigue as it provides increased vitality.
