An antique 19th century sterling silver mounted cowrie shell snuff box, the hinged mount with full Swedish hallmarks for 1884.

The shell is of typical egg form with nice colouration and has been fitted with a wide edged silver mount : the top with a hand engraved scroll mofif and a floral / foliate cartouche containing the name 'Kristina', and all within beaded wave borders. The lipped lid opens via a 9 section piano hinge and scalloped clasp to access the interior compartment  - please see all photos and click to enlarge.

The interior lid has the makers mark ' AJB', 'W' (possibly a town mark for Varberg or Visby ?), the date letter F6 (1884), and the Sweden '3 crowns' mark.

Size : Approx 6.2cm x 4.9cm at widest points, and approx 3cm tall max.

Condition : Good antique condition with a good hinged lid / closure and the expected light wear / marks commensurate with age and use. The points to note are a small loss to the edge of the silver mount at one hinge end and a small loss to one knuckle on the hinge (last 2 photos - neither affect function in any way at all) - please see all photos and click to enlarge.
