El Rancho Vegas was a hotel and casino on the Las Vegas strip .it was located at 2500 Las Vegas Boulevard, at the southwest corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sahara Avenue. And opened on April 3, 1941 until 1942, it was the largest hotel in Las Vegas with 110 rooms. On June 17, 1960, the Hotel was destroyed by fire. In 1982, the former Thunderbird Hotel was rebranded EL Rancho Casino, creating some confusion. In 1940, James Cash man, a businessman, asked Thomas Hull, the owner of the El Rancho hotels, to build a chain in Las Vegas. Hull saw the potential of the resort, as he saw all the out-of-state license plates during a visit to the resorts potential site.  It was the first full-scale casino resort on Highway 91 south of Las Vegas, a roadway that within ten years of the El Rancho's opening would become known as the Las Vegas Strip.  Though it did not have the glitz or notoriety of other early casinos (most notably, the Flamingo and Desert Inn), it was nonetheless a Strip pioneer. When the El Rancho Vegas opened in 1941, Southern Nevada was a very different place.  There were a few isolated gambling clubs on Highway 91, but no full-fledged casino hotels.  Indeed, the idea of the casino resort--an integrated complex containing gaming, lodging, dining, entertainment, though it expanded periodically, it never matched the size of new resorts like the Riviera, Tropicana, and Stardust.
