The nut and washer are made from zinc plated Grade-8 Steel approved for automotive fasteners. The tensile strength of Grade-8 steel is 150,000 lbs per square inch, and reduces the risk of thread galling (often called "cold-welding", where the bolt threads seize to the threads of a nut and are typically impossible to remove without cutting the bolt or splitting the nut.)
