Handsome fold-out 1942 Shell road map of the state of Washington, printed more than 75 years ago.

  • This map opens to 18" x 24" and has great detail on old highway alignments, including U.S. Routes 99 and 101, with cartography by H.M. Gousha.

  • On the reverse side there are inset plans of Olympic and Mount Rainier National Parks, along with a transcontinental driving map of the United States.

  • The map was distributed by the Shell Oil Company in 1942 and is dated by the code number in the lower margin: 10-P 1942-1. Population data is from the 1940 census.

  • It is a scarce wartime issue and includes a printed statement on the front cover: "All points of military interest have been removed voluntarily from this map and index."

  • A printed message in the lower margin of the map reads: "Maps are paper — Paper is important to our war effort — Help us conserve it by saving this map."

  • Condition:  This map is in very good, lightly used condition, bright and clean, with no rips, tears, or writing. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
