detail, with street names and
the locations of public buildings and railroad lines.
- The image area measures 23.7 x 28.2 cm [9¼" x 11"], and
the
coverage area extends from Baker Street to the Baltimore & Ohio
Railroad Coal Depot on the northwest branch of the Patapsco River.
- It labels the Green Mount Cemetery — where three of the
Lincoln
assassination conspirators, including John Wilkes Booth, are buried,
and it locates St. Mary's College, the first Catholic seminary in the
United States, and the Camden Street Station, today the site of the
Oriole Park baseball stadium.
- Among the other named places and features shown on the
map are
Cathedral Cemetery, Washington Monument, Phoenix Shot Tower,
the Susquehanna Railroad, City Jail, Odd Fellows Hall, City Wharves,
Mt. Clare Station, and Exchange Place.
- This map was drawn and engraved by W.H. Gamble and
published by William
M. Bradley & Bros., successors to S. Augustus Mitchell, Jr.,
Philadelphia. It is dated 1887 in the lower margin.
