In 2006, American Idol fans were shocked when Chris Daughtry was eliminated and didn't make the final three. Because he did not get a big hometown parade as did the top 3, little McLeansville, NC decided to honor him with a parade.

I flew across the country from S. California, attended his press conference and concert (which benefited The Children's Home Society of North Carolina), and talked to those who knew him -- family, friends, local reporters, a PTA President, a school principal, a law enforcement official, and the head of an adoption agency. They all agreed that the humble young man, an adoptive father, was the real deal and a great role model.

The article I wrote was published by ADOPTION TODAY MAGAZINE. On October 13, 2006 I attended his performance at THE VIPER ROOM in Hollywood and he signed the article. Because it is not a widely distributed magazine and no longer in print or available, I am quite sure that no one else has a signed copy of this. For Chris Daughtry fans this really is a one of a kind item.

When the article was posted on chat rooms, some commented that the poignant story brought them to tears. It described the family's struggles while he was on Idol. The research for the article also included a couple phone calls with Maureen Van Zandt. She and husband Steven were so impressed with the young rocker and his story that they sent a number of gifts to help the family and offered their names for charity fundraising to be able to help Chris help other children.

Come on, Daughtry fans, don't regret letting this get away.
