Charming pair of antique pre-Civil War silhouette style portraits; done on paper in ink wash with charcoal accents. The gentleman sits in a rocking chair with a Windsor style back, his legs are crossed and he holds a book. The woman sits in a simple side chair, with a high-necked dress and holds a drawstring bag in her lap. The frames are mahogany veneer, and have old rolled glass with speckles and irregularities. These are not the original frames - there is a small hole on the long side of each where a brass ring used to be. The mats appear to be fairly recent; although you can see from the toning on the paper that the original mats were the same shape. Some minor staining along the edge of both pieces; please see photos. The frames have some dings along the raised front edge, overall in very good antique condition.
Art measures appx. 5" x 7". Frame is 12 x 10" x 1" deep.
