This body jewellery is made from natural wood. How do I measure ear tunnels and plugs?

Measuring tunnels and plugs isn’t difficult, but its easy to get confused when it comes to measuring so many different types of plugs, tunnels and piercings so we wrote this guide to clear things up.

All tunnels and plugs are measured using what we call the “wearable diameter” of the tunnel or plug, i.e. the part that actually sits in your ear, this does not include any “flares” or in the case of the photo below the screw-fit part (notice the measuring calipers are in between the screw-fit parts where your ear would sit). This is how all tunnels and plug diameters are measured.
Some tunnels with flares such as; single, double or screw-on can look bigger than organic ones as their outer flare may be larger or the hole in the middle may be smaller but the “wearable diameter” will always be the actual size. It is important to know the exact size of a plug or tunnel before you put them in so you don’t force in a bigger size and your damage ears.

Our tunnels and plugs are always measured in mm, but you may come across them being measured in gauge / inches so we’ve made a handy size guide here so you can make sure the size you are getting is correct.
