This item is essential when installing a dual battery system into your late model vehicle, it is the simplest and cheapest way to obtain a suitable charge voltage for the main and dual battery. The alternator voltage booster will increase the alternator output voltage by approximately .5V - .6V giving a much improved charge voltage for your batteries ensuring your batteries are fully charged and greatly reducing the time it takes to recharge them. Why buy an expensive DC/DC charger when the alternator voltage booster this will do the job better at a fraction of the cost?


The alternator voltage booster is ideal for the following applications:

The MK3 version is the latest offering from HKB electronics and differs from all other diode booster units in that it is the only device of its type available that incorporates a self resetting PTC electronic fuse. The PTC device incorporated in the MK3 offers far better circuit protection than both the OEM fuse it replaces and all other types of voltage boosters. Should an electrical fault develop in the vehicles wiring other types of booster diodes will be destroyed and need to be replaced, this is not the case with the MK3 unit, in the event of an electrical fault occurring, the PTC device in the MK3 detects the excessive current flow and turns off preventing damage to the booster unit, the vehicles wiring, and alternator. Once the electrical fault has been removed the PTC device automatically resets and the booster unit will resume normal operation.

Note : We specifically use a PTC device for due to its self resetting properties and higher reliability. If it detects a fault the PTC trips and protects the vehicles wiring and the alternator. If the fault clears it resets and the booster resumes normal operation, this could meant the difference between you being stuck in the bush or getting home safely. If you do get an intermittent fault in the alternator voltage sensing circuit you will informed of it by the charge warning light in your instrument dispaly blinking on and off. You can then have the fault looked at your earliest convenience. We use a conventional fuse in our original MK1 units which were first released back in 2008. In 2013 we realised the benefits of using a PTC device and started producing our MK2 & MK3 versions. Our customers also see the benefits of afforded by the PTC devices, these days nearly all our sales including those to the other companies and auto electricians we supply are the PTC type booster. 


If  PTC's (self resetting fuses) are so good why don't automotive manufacturers us them? Contary to what you may have read they do! Automotive manufacturers use self resetting circuit breakers but generally not in a vehicles fuse boxes as they don't need to. The primary function of the fuse in your vehicles fuse box is to protect the vehicles wiring from excessive current flow. Old style blade fuses are all they need for this, they are very cheap to manufacture only costing them a few cents, PTC devices on the other hand in the same current rating as blade fuses are considerably more expensive costing in the dollars region. Car manufacturers are very cost focused, they will only use a PTC device where the benefits it provides outweigh the added cost of using such a device, such as inside your cars very expensive ECU's (Electronic Control Units) and other electronics. They are also used where a self resetting function is desirable, where it is impractical or impossible to change the fuse and where higher reliability is required than can be provided by using old style fuses. We use them for there self resetting and higher reliability ascepts. A PTC is a state of the art fuse, it is far surperior to the old style fuse it replaces. It will trip instanly to an over current condition preventing any power surge, many many times faster than an old blade fuse. They are more accurate than old style fuses and will auto reset once the fault is removed thus they never need replacing and why they are used in your vehicles expensive ECU's and other electronic systems. 


   *  The electronics devices are fully encapsulated epoxy resin prior to package assembly ensuring superior water, moisture & mechanical protection.


   * Units are available in micro blade 5A & 7.5A, mini blade 5A, 7.5A & 10A and 7.5A standard blade packages to suit most vehicles. Unlike inferior copies where you may need to modify the device or your fuse box to fit, or where they sit above the fuse socket, all HKB electronic package types plug fully into the fuse socket, and are fully supported in the fuse box. You do not need to modify your fuse block or the device to fit, it simply plugs straight in. Full DYI instructions are included.


This unit is plug and play, simply replaces the alternator voltage sensing fuse in the main fuse box of your vehicle and still maintains the original fuse protection, full DYI instructions included.

        Disclaimers and Warnings


We highly recommend you don't use GM diodes as they are unfused and could result in an electrical fire under a fault condition. Piggy back and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) units under certain fault conditions can get very hot and become an ignition source for leaking fuel etc. PCB units also have uninsulated areas of the PCB and component leads, in the event of the fuse box lid being dislodged or the fuse box cover being penerated by metal in a serious accident these uninsulated areas could cause sparks and become an ignition source for leaking fuel. You don't see car manufactures putting naked PCB's in fuse boxes!
