Exceptionally Carved Flemish Antique Buffet a Deux Corps in Walnut, circa 1850
A beautiful connoisseur library cabinet in Renaissance style fabricated in grand scale for an important grand space. A monumental 100 inches tall, very fine walnut elaborately carved 19th century Flemish breakfront 'Renaissance Hunting Style' bookcase. Made for royalty and the very wealthy. Heavily and fabulously hand-carved foliate, lions, columns, griffins, birds in foliate. Fabricated in two pieces separated by Griffin supports--the top resting with library shelves with arched glass doors on large carved griffin supports, on bottom cabinet are two Grotesque carved drawers, the lower doors with highly elaborate carved in high relief birds and foliate. Would look great as a focal point in and English, French or Italian themed kitchen, dining room, bar, foyer or library. This cabinet proudly displayed some of the finest book collection in the Harkness Library. Provenance from the Edith Hale Harkness Estate Library-America's foremost 19th century Philanthropic family- lending flagler and rockefeller the funds to launch standard oil.
