DOUBLE DRAGONS with PEARL OF LIFE BANGLE

This beautiful vintage silver and rattan bangle is an excellent example of old style workmanship. The silver is delicately crafted to depict two dragons wrestling for the "Flaming Pearl of Life", an ancient Chinese legend dating back thousands of years before the first Emperor, to the Hongshanhou Culture (4700 to 2900 BC). The dragons symbolize power and control over the elements, especially water and air, and the flaming pearl of life represents immortality. The two dragons wrestling over the pearl is a symbol of good fortune and long life. The circle of the bangle is completed by a strong rattan reed.

This bangle is a fine example of workmanship. Notice how each dragon's whiskers curl back over the snout. Fine chasing gives fine detail. The bangle has an inner diameter of approximately 2 5/8" with a total weight of approximately 20 grams. Stamped "SILVER" at the base of one of the dragon's neck, just above where the silver and rattan meet.
