This listing is for the UNUSUALLY RARE BRASIL RELEASE  of Revell's Lockheed L-188 Electra in VARIG Airlines livery.

The box cover ain't perfect---but it sure is RARE!!!

The original instructions are shown and are in Portuguese.

The original decals are shown; I am also including digitally edited reproductions last photo].

I have inventoried this kit--IT IS MISSING ONE PART.   All parts are not shown [my error!].
Now, although you cannot tell them apart, SOME of the parts are from the original 1957 Revell AA Electra kit:
The fuselage halves,
one wing half  and
[not shown---2 props, one spinner, 2 landing gear support struts].

The only part missing is the U-shaped antenna [Part 31].  I have included a slightly off-scale replacement from Revell's 1955 1/122 scale AA DC-7.

Not a gem--but still, it IS extremely rare

Oldmodelkits has one listed at $495 [no tape on box cover but maybe more scuffing?].

YOUR CHOICE OF ONE SET REPRODUCTION decals ONLY

NO BOX; NO KIT--NO ORIGINAL DECALS.

You get YOUR CHOICE of reproduction decals for the:

  • fairly "rare" Revell 1957 release of the Lockheed "Electra" in American Airlines markings;
  • the VERY RARE Revell Brazil VARIG airlines Electra; or
  •  the 1962/1963 extremely RARE Los Angeles Dodgers Lockheed Electra [sold only at concession stands at Dodger Stadium!].

Why is Revell’s Lockheed Electra so rare? Problems with the REAL Electra affected ITS sales…which, of course, impacted sales of the Revell kit.  Then, Revell (much as they did with the USS Norton Sound) modified the molds in ~1963 into make their P-3 Orion kit.

There are  reproductions [scanned at 1200 dpi, edited [color corrected & digitally enhanced!], printed at 600 dpi, sealed with polyurethane spray]. For example, the LA Dodgers decals are colored with the correct color code for "Dodger Blue"!  The VARIG decals are a "work in progress"
