Why Tough Tile?

Our Interlocking Tough Tiles are an ideal flooring solution to a dusty unattractive concrete garage or workshop floor. Manufactured in the UK using hardwearing PVC, Tough Tiles will keep your floor looking great for years to come. Designed to last, interlocking Tough Tiles create an impact absorbing, slip resistant and anti-fatigue surface that will not crack, chip or dent. Engineered with a hollowed out grid system to bridge the voids of uneven surfaces such as rippled concrete garage floors and to provide a thermal cushion between the cold concrete floor and the interlocking tile above.

How Do They Work?

The Tough Tile Interlocking Flooring System has been engineered with a wide reinforced locking system that allows the Tough Tiles to fit together like puzzle pieces. The extra surface area around the joints creates a very strong connection. This unique joint allows vehicles to drive and turn on the Tough Tiles without separating the tiles or pulling them apart. The tiles do not require any adhesives and for the most part, any floor preparation to be laid.

How To Measure Up Your Garage / Area For Fitting?

  • Make sure to take a few measurements on both sides of the garage corners to give you an average length and width. You basically want the longest measurement from both averages. Note the two measurements down.
  • The tile measures 495mm but 470mm when interlocked. Thus, it is better to figure out how many tiles will span across the width and the length individually.
  • Take your first measurement (i.e. 3m) and divide it by the size of the interlocked tile to accommodate for the interlocking part. 3m / 0.47m = 6.38... The tile must be joined on to the next one using the interlocking lugs so cutting it short will not help. Basically, just round up to the nearest number (6 in the example.)
  • Divide the next measurement by the size of the interlocked tile. 6 / 0.47 = 12.76 so 13 complete tiles.
  • Multiply the two numbers (7 and 13) to get the total number of tiles required. You should get 91 tiles to cover the area.
  • The tiles are cut to size around the perimeter of the garage and require ramps to span the garage door. Ramps / Edges are not requiered around the perimeter.
  • To figure out how many ramp edges will be required for your garage door take the measurement of your garage door and divide it by 0.495m. In the example 2.4m / 0.495 = 4.84 so 5 ramp edges in total.
  • Add the total of the tiles and ramps into your basket for checkout. We provide you with a cutting tile template that will allow for an expansion gap (ON ORDERS OVER 35 TILES). Complete instructions on fitting and cutting are included as well. Thank you! If you requier any help please contact us directly by phone on 01273 453 287 (UK).

Measurements
Complete Tile: 495mm x 495mm x (Penny Tile:13mm Checker Plate Tile:14mm)
When Interlocked: 475mm x 475mm (-+5mm)
Reaction to fire classification: BFL-S1
Slip resistance: BS EN 7188

How to calculate the number of tiles required: Each tile measures 495mm x 495mm nominal, however, when interlocked two tiles will measure 975mm. The reason for this is that the tiles interlock into each other, so the joint on the tile is subtracted from the total length covered.

To simplify the calculation all you need to do is the following...

Divide the length by 0.475

Divide the width by 0.475

Multiply the two together to give you a total number of tiles required.

Just remember to round any decimal points up as we can only send you complete tiles.

Here is an example of a typical garage measuring 2.7m by 5.5m.  2.7 / 0.475 = 5.684 so 6 tiles wide. 5.5 / 0.475 = 11.578 so 12 tiles long. 6 x 12 = 72 complete tiles. Don't forget about adding ramped edges if required for the garage door!
