By customer request Paul Chen Hanwei has produced a re-enactment version of our SH2250 Bastard sword. The blade is forged in 5160 high-carbon steel, to minimize burring, and the transverse thickness of the guard has been increased, both to provide adequate strength for re-enactment use and to present a safer profile at the ends of the guard. Another innovation is the provision of an all-leather scabbard, in contrast with the rigid scabbards normally provided with our Practical swords - this is designed both to provide an extra margin of safety when combatants fall on the scabbard in battle and also to minimize the need for replacements. The sword is supplied with the grip and scabbard in a neutral-colored leather to allow customization to the owner's taste.

Comments: This is an impressive weapon - excellent design and workmanship. The long grip and wheel-type pommel provide balance as well as leverage for the second hand, with plenty of room for gauntleted hands, while forward curved cross-piece provide excellent protection. The tan leather grip and scabbard are intended to be stained or dyed to match the fighters persona. I've found a simple dark wood stain to be simple and attractive. I'm a collector and a weekend warrior, active in my local HEMA group.

I'm a collector and a weekend warrior, active in my local HEMA group. I only list what I own and can personally recommend. Item guaranteed authentic, new in box and direct from manufacturer. Please see this note from Sword Manufacturer Guide online; ...it is especially important when buying Paul Chen Hanwei swords online to avoid shopping based on price alone, as many of the sellers who stock them at close to wholesale prices are selling seconds or defective items that should have been inspected and sent back to the factory as per Hanwei’s usual policy with their wholesalers. See my seller ratings and buy with confidence, plus super fast shipping. Any questions please ask, I'm happy to help.

5160 is a carbon steel extremely popular now with many forges. Essentially a simple spring steel with high carbon content and chromium added for hardness. It has good edge holding but is known especially for it’s toughness (like L-6 Bainite Steel, used in the very best Japanese Katanas) Often utilized in swords (hardened in the low 50s Rc) because of it’s toughness, as well as hard use knives and axes (hardened near 60 Rc)
