Case is NOT protective against water. 

INSTALLATION:  Remove the outside layer carefully by hands. (Do not use tools to prevent damage).  Open the inside shell by separating the two halves at the tabs as arrows pointed.  Place the phone between the hard plastic halves.  Click the hard plastic case closed, and install the outside rubber case. 

**If the screen protector has separated from the case during transit, it can be easily reattached and is not defective. Your phone holds the screen protector tightly in place when installed.

How to insert your iPhone 4/4s in your new case:  there are 2 components to the case.  Insert your iPhone into the “hard” shell protective inner case.  Very important, when inserting the iPhone into the inner hard shell, use your finger-nail to peel off a plastic protective sheet on the inside of the innerhard shell screen protector. When shipping your case, the silicone rubber skin is on top of this inner hard shell, with a cardboard insert within the inner hard shell below the silicone skin that showed an image of the iPhone and where it is to be placed.  The inner hard shell will open when you place a fingernail below the side and bottom and top clips and lift slightly up from the back to the front face where the phone will rest.  There are 4 clips, one at each side.  When releasing the clips the inner hard shell will open and you can then insert your phone in same. To use your case correctly please insert the iPhone 4s into this hard shell.  Thereafter wrap the inner hard shell with the silicone skin.
