The law makes an exception for the use of a temporary spare wheel (SPACE SAVER WHEEL) to be fitted in an emergency. Temporary use spare wheels may be narrower than standard manufactured fitted wheels. The over all size of the wheel can also differ for example, if your vehicle is equipped with 18" alloys it is safe and compatible for a 16" wheel to be used.
Space-saver wheels are designed for temporary use to enable the vehicle to be driven home or/and to a place of safety/repair. There is no maximum distance however they do have a speed restriction of 50mph.
