This amulets, in the shape of a beetle, had a number of uses. It was believed that anyone up-righting scarabs flipped on their backs relieved themselves of sin.

Scarabs also contained curative, fortune and protective properties, and were used in the embalming, body wrapping and funeral rites as a symbol of rebirth. The Ankh represents living and everlasting life, not only in the material world but in the spiritual after life, and is the oldest and most sacred Egyptian amulet.
