Offered is an exceptional and rare pair of mid-century studio made sterling silver and crystal candle holders by the noted Boston area modernist silversmiths Bill Mason and Len Field, who were partners Macefield Silversmiths, a combination of their names. They are known primarily for their modernist jewelry designs; their other silversmithing work is extremely rare. These candle holders are unique in that the deep, hand wrought silver candle cups or bobeche are not attached to the crystal cube bases, and have separate silver inserts that convert them into footed dishes. These are probably totally unique among the production of these noted modernist designers. The hand wrought cups are signed Macefield Sterling with their mark, and Entirely Hand Wrought. The inserts are marked Macefield and with their maker’s mark. They are in excellent condition with the exception of a chip to one corner of one crystal base. The silver cups measure 3 3/4” in diameter.
