Beautifully designed and made mid-century "Contempora" buffet by J.L. Metz, made in the 1960's. Pervect to be used as a TV flat screen Console unit. Metz was one of the upper-end furniture makers that prospered in the 20th century, especially after WWII. A family-owned manufacturer that prided themselves on building stylish, unique pieces. The "Contempora" line offered multiple products for the living, dining and bedrooms. This buffet is made of fruit wood, and is exhibits their "Weathered Cherry" finish. A central inset panel of travertine makes for a dramatic top, and is flanked by two inset squares - all three banded by brass edging. The front has two pairs of doors - one pair reveals a storage space with an adjustable shelf. the other conceals three drawers. The drawers have a solid wood front, solid oak dovetailed sides and mahogany bottoms. The doors have deep frames that set off a panel of burled walnut, with incised lines that create nine squares within a square. The case sits on legs and stretchers of patinated brass, very much like Mastercraft Furniture would offer a decade later.

In exceptionally condition - almost no issues what so ever. The finish is even, clean and without fading or wear. The top shows very little wear of any kind. The stone is fully intact and without nicks, dings or other issue. The drawers open and close easily. The pieces is heavy, and structurally perfect. The right-hand pair of doors do not "click" shut with their magnet as the left pair does (they close just fine) but the magnet may need replacing.
