Extremely Rare Large Antique Earthenware Cat c. 1830

This incredibly rare earthenware figure of a cat was made in Staffordshire. It has a treacle glazed coat to simulate a tortoiseshell cat and is modelled with separate front legs and seated on an oval base. The figure is very weighty and solid. Cats were not often modelled in this era because they were mostly considered working animals rather than pets so this unusually large model is a rare treat.

Condition report:
The figure is in generally very good condition the only issues being a very narrow stress crack along the cat's back where the mould was joined (picture 7) and some rubbing to the back where the figure has been up against a wall (picture 6). Please inspect the photographs closely to assess the condition and quality of this impressive piece.
