The Grand Army “Blue Book” provides the official regulations and rules of the Grand Army of the Potomac, including official decisions made and opinions related to its establishment, operations, and conduct. The Gran Army of the Republic, G.A.R., was a fraternal organization composed of veterans of the Union Army, Navy, Marines, and Revenue Cutter Services who served in the American Civil War for the federal forces. The G.A.R. was founded in 1866, and grew to include hundreds of posts across the nation. Linking men through their experience of the Civil War, the G.A.R. becams among the first organized advocacy groups in American politics, supporting voting rights for black veterans, patriotic education, helping to make Memorial Day a national holiday, and more. It had more than 490,000 members at its peak of membership in 1890. THIS BOOK IS IN NEAR FINE CONDITION This original, antique book is in excellent overall condition. Bound in royal blue covers with gold lettering and decorative highlights, the book is clean and has solid binding throughout. The exterior has no bumping, but has mild rubbing. The spine lettering remains bright. The interior is clean and the pages are in excellent condition. The book is free of any writing, foxing or stamps. There is an antique pasteboard from the Waterson Post, No. 45, Grand Army of the Republic Headquarters, Chelsea, VT, on the front end pages (a plus). There are no other markings in the book.. It is not an ex-library book. There is a very light smudge on one pages. The binding is solid throughout the book; it has no looseness or lean and both hinges are fine. Floral designs are printed on the end pages. 238 pages. Overall an excellent condition, antique book.
