Product name: Vase Shelves

About the product

Year of design: 2013

The Vase Shelves project is a modular shelving system that is constructed of beech wood planes and vase shaped lathed wood elements that serve as connectors between one plane to another and give the object its unique look and constructional qualities.

The vase shaped elements replace all of the constructional components that usually make up an archetypical shelf, because due its typical form it can naturally perform the functions of the vertical and diagonal supports. In addition, on a more emotional level, the vase shape makes sense as a shape on a shelf, because we are used to seeing vases on shelves in homes all over the world.

The user can play and determine the amount of shelve/sculpture he would like the object to have by adding or removing vases (each shelf can have as little as 4 vases and as many as fit in the shelf) and so customize and determine the objects final composition.

Vase Shelves was put in production by the Italian furniture company Covo, and is part of Covo collection since 2014.

The Vase Shelves prototype is a one of a kind single prototype made by the designers in Tel Aviv, Israel.

About Studio Gilli Kuchik & Ran Amitai

Welcome to the Kuchik & Amitai Ebay Shop!

Studio Gilli Kuchik & Ran Amitai was founded in 2009 by designers Ran Amitai (1980) and Gilli Kuchik (1983). The designers met and became a couple in life and in design during their studies at the department of Industrial Design at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem Israel.

The designers believe in a design process based on hands-on research and experimentation with materials and technologies and finding new ways of interpreting traditional and emerging production methods and object morphologies.

The studio works in various fields of design and moves freely between the worlds of self-produced limited editions to mass produced design objects, whilst each of these worlds brings inspiration and context to the other.

Since its establishment the studio has worked with leading companies in Israel and abroad, won numerous design awards and has exhibited and been featured in exhibitions and design publication around the world. The works of the studio are part of Design Museum Holon’s permanent collection.

In the shop you can find items that range between self produced series, limited editions, one of a kinds and prototypes.  All items are designed made and crafted by the designers in their studio in Tel Aviv.
