Being offered on this auction is
beautiful ewer vase made by Lorenz Hutschenreuther, Selb, Bavaria.
It is of famous now German Op-Art line. Ewer has modern art shape. It is of
white background. It is decorated with very pictures of three deers painted
in modern art style. Two of them, in purple and yellow, are shown on one
side and the third one in black is on the opposite. Vase is fully glazed.
Looks splendid. Hutschenreuther was well known as one of the greatest
porcelain figurine makers for about 200 years. Its most famous Lion mark is
a symbol of high quality and artistic design. Hutschenreuther’s art
department was established in 1917. Nowadays, the Lion mark is under
umbrella of Rosenthal Group. This vase is marked on the backside with
standard production logo of Art Department used in 1939 - 1964. Other
marking is form number 730 incised on the backside and 20 printed in red.
Hans Achtziger (1918 – 2003) designed this vase in the series of porcelain
objects on his workshop on modern ceramics in Selb. He is one of the
leading names in German porcelain making industry. He worked for
Hutschenreuther since 1946. Achtziger designed many beautiful
Hutschenreuther’s coffee and china sets as well as worked as an artist. He
was director of Hutschenreuther’s Art Department since 1972. He retired
formally in 1981 keeping adviser function. During Op-Art era Achtziger ran
a porcelain workshop on modern design. Many his vases including ewer on
this auction came from this effort.
Vase measures about 2 ¼” in diameter
on the base and stands 8” tall. Condition is immaculate with no cracks or
