The Kennedy is a 40% silver variety minted in the United States Mint. Half dollars were 90% silver until 1964 from 1965 to 1970 they were 40% silver from 1971 until 1991 they were only made in the Copper nickel variety from 1992 to present the San Francisco mint has made a silver proof Edition in 90% silver to commemorate President John F Kennedy. From the year 2000 to present only the red San Francisco proof sets have the 90% silver Kennedy Washington quarter and Roosevelt dime inside of them. None of the red and black Eisenhower commemorative dollar proof sets have any silver coins inside of them. Only the blue and red bicentennial commemorative Sets have 40% silver Eisenhower dollars Kennedy half dollars and Bicentennial Drummer Boy quarters. The blue and red sets were minted in proof versions that contain three coins in 40% silver and they were also minted an uncirculated editions they also contain three coins and 40% silver the difference between the proof and uncirculated varieties is in the mirror proof finish compared to the uncirculated matte finish.
