Original 1893
antique color lithographed map of the island of Java, printed more than 125 years ago.
- The cartography is by George
Franklin Cram, and the image area measures
21.5 x 30.5 cm [8½" x 12"].
- There is fine historical and ethnographic
detail throughout, with hundreds of place names. Longitude is measured
from Greenwich and Washington.
- The map labels the
Strait of Sunda, separating Java and Sumatra, the two main islands in
the Indonesian archipelago.
- Today there are plans to build a bridge
connecting Merak Port in western Java with Bakauheni Port in southern
Sumatra, a project that was likely not even imagined as a possibility
back when this map was printed.
- This is an original, authentic antique map, not
a reproduction or modern reprint, and it is fully guaranteed to be
genuine.
- It would make a great display in your den or office. It
would
also make a perfect gift, and we'll include our helpful framing tips
for your reference, along with a photocopy of the title page from
the book in which it was published.
- Condition: This map is in excellent
condition,
bright and clean, with wide margins and no marks,
rips, or tears.
Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
- There is a map of Japan on the reverse side.
