Design

Huawei has recently been improving the look and feel of their products and the Mate S is no different. It provides the perfect balance with a gentle curvature which fits perfectly in your hand. While the compact nature of the product, including its slim profile (just 2.65mm thickness), is incredible when you consider the size of the screen and the integration of technology.

The feel of a product is important and Huawei has put a great deal of effort into ensuring the Mate S has a premium look and texture to it. This has been done using a full metal body, which uses quality materials in the construction, and through the use of diamond cutting technology in the finish.

This results in a product which is easy to hold and use throughout the day, while also looking great.

Interface

Ever wondered whether there may be a different way to interact with the screen of your phone? With Knuckle 2.0 from Huawei, you can navigate menus, open applications and even draw on the screen with more accuracy and speed.

You can even crop and edit images using this interface, so give you finger a rest and use your knuckle instead.

If you thought a fingerprint sensor's only use was to secure your phone then Huawei will change your opinion with the Mate S. They have given this phone the latest in fingerprint technology. This means the sensor can perform extra functions, making it possible to answer calls, take photos, or browse web pages by sliding or clicking it.

The navigation key function gives you the ability to control the notification bar by simple sliding. This feature increases the speed at which you can deal with all your notifications and other messages.

Camera

With the inclusion of a 13MP camera, which incorporates many professional features, you will be able to take stunning photos. You will be able to adjust features like shutter speed, exposure and light saturation, all from easy to access menus.

Optical Image Stabilisation ensures there is no accidental blur in your photos and you capture sharp images with more detail.

HDR+ (High Dynamic Range) balances the lighting between foreground figures and the background for an improvement in your results when using the flash in photos.

When you are capturing photos you normally want to maximise the amount of light entering the camera lens. With an artificial synthesis sapphire camera lens, you have a material which is extremely scratch resistant and lets in considerably more light.

If you enjoy taking selfie photos you want textures and skin tones to look natural. With a pre-positioned soft light and algorithm which enhances skin tones the 8MP front facing camera will give you the results you crave.

Technology

Huawei has given the Mate S the latest in technology with a powerful and efficient Kirin 935 chipset which features 64bit processing. This chipset means you can use all the latest apps, switching between them with ease and you still have battery power left at the end of the day.

The chipset is complimented by the inclusion of 3GB of RAM and a full 32GB of internal storage. The memory gives you plenty of space for running apps so you can easily multi-task, while the storage enables you to store all the photos and movies you want with you.

It is great being able to store photos and movies, but you need a great screen to be able to enjoy them fully. With the inclusion of a 5.5” AMOLED screen which features a full 1080p resolution in the Mate S, you can do just that. As images are brighter and have more definition, while colours literally jump out from the screen.

To ensure the protection of the screen a layer of Gorilla Glass has been added to limit the impact of scratches and minor abrasions.
