André Delatte

A wonderful 1925-30 French art deco pendant in nickel plated bronze or solid brass holding a large globe in molded glass by André Delatte. Delatte was the banker of the Muller freres company. He was seduced and inspired by their products and after a study in chemistry Delatte opened his own glass factory in Nancy. Due to the financial crisis it closed in 1933 and Delatte opened another firm in the Loire region called Art et Verrerie (Arvers) which existed till the 2nd world war after which André Delatte moved to the south of France and returned working in the financial sector.

The ceiling light has a total height of 62 cm (24-3/8") and the globe has a diameter of 26,5 cm (about 10-1/2"). The lamp is in very good condition. I re-nickeled and patinated the fixture. It is rewired with an American standard socket. For other countries I will place a European E27 one. The glass has a molding irregularity on the inside of the shade which hardly shows and does not distract (see three pictures). This rare model globe is always signed "A.Delatte Nancy" yet the signature is almost always practically invisible. I found it since I know where to look for it. Invisible to the naked eye it shows up a little when masked with transparent tape. The last picture shows a photo of a vase, merely to show you how the Delatte signature looks like.
