Grip strength is one of the most important and underutilized elements of martial arts training. Not only is grip strength important for making a tight fist but it is key for grabbing techniques.

In traditional Okinawan Karate all exercises that used non-body weight tools are called Hojo Undo or supplementary exercises. They use many traditional and unique training tools. These are called Nigiri Game, or gripping jars. The lip at the top is grasped between the fingertips and the entire last part of the thumb. Then weight is added to the jar to increase the difficulty. The original jars were made from ceramic and were notorious for breaking. These jars are made of very sturdy PVC and are virtually unbreakable. The original jars were weighted with water or sand which was difficult to make even and would spill all over the floor when inevitably they broke. These jars are loaded with 2.5lb (1kg) standard size weight plates. You can load any weight from 5lbs (2kg) to 50lbs (22.7kg).

Looking to build your dojo? These jars use the same weights as the standard chi ishi

In the box: 2 nigh-indestructible PVC gripping jars
