Original 1872 antique map of the village of Berwick in York County, Maine and part of what was then known as Great Falls in Strafford County, New Hampshire, printed more than 145 years ago.

  • The image area measures 38.8 x 34 cm [15¼" x 13½"], and the map is drawn on a scale of 250 feet to the inch.


  • Details include property owners and businesses on both sides of the Salmon Falls River.


  • Among the named places and features are the Maine Bridge, the Great Falls Branch of the Boston & Maine Railroad, Milk Street, Marston Lane, saw mills, grist mills, tanneries, machine shops, and other businesses, including the Great Falls Manufacturing Company.


  • The map was published in 1872 by Sanford, Everts & Company, Philadelphia in Atlas of York County, Maine. Twenty years after this map was printed the town of Great Falls was renamed Somersworth and incorporated as a city.
